Bis hierhin und weiter, diploma project at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz, 2009

On the 25th of October 2003 I became an adult. I was just about to start my studies in Mainz when my dearest
friend Jonas went sailing and never came back. At a moment's notice everything changed. The days got grey,
I became more anxious and learnt to accept responsibility. Relationships and events were always compared to
earlier ones. Memories began to fade away, so I more and more forced myself to remember. I lived in the past,
what was not only exhausting, but also limited me in my candour towards the future.
I used the months I had for the preparation of my diploma for a very personal project. Both in form and content
“Bis hierhin und weiter” tells the story about my childhood, youth and my friendship with Jonas. What might
sound meaningful and intimate, is in fact is a bright collection of fragments of memory. Important to me was to
stick to reality in concerns of permanent storage, but also to amuse people, who don't share my past. The book
ends with the 25th of October 2003.

The stories are of different lengths, persons or settings aren't introduced and the memories pop up and
disappear somewhere. The accompanying illustrations, which comment, surround or reflect a story, do not
follow narrative structures or are of the same style. Each recalls one of the many different forms of various
memory images or the way they are remembered.
A memory always consists of memories of speech and image, memories on stories and photos. The book
should exactly work like this. Pictures and text converge, belong together and complement one another.

At the moment I'm searching a german publisher for this book (as it is written in german). If I shouldn't find one,
i will publish it myself and distribute it over ShakeYourTree. If you are interested in this project, don't hesitate to
get in touch with me. Thank you.
